Adding Blocks

By default, Moodle courses are built with certain “blocks” such as: navigation, settings, latest news, recent activity, upcoming events, etc.  Depending on your needs, you can add more blocks to your course.  To do this:

From within your course, turn editing on.

At the bottom of the right-hand block column, you will now see “Add a block.”

You can then select the desired block from the drop-down list and it will be added to the course.  Repeat this process for each block you would like to add.  For descriptions of most available blocks, please click here.

The “VTC Resources” block (at the very bottom of the drop-down list) is a great block for students in need of support.  Please add this to your courses to provide quick access to student support services.

To move blocks, hover your mouse over the upper part of the block until you see the four-way arrows. Click and drag the block to its new destination.

*Tip: The quickmail block is a useful and fast way to send emails to the entire class or selected users.  Simply add this block, and then click “compose new email” to send communications.  Please note that quickmail sends emails to the primary VSC email address associated with each student.  Therefore, if students report they are not receiving emails, make sure they are checking their VSC email account.
