If you see yellow/tan shaded grade boxes, this means that the grade has been overridden.
There are two instances where grades are considered overridden by Moodle:
1. You replaced an existing grade for either manual items or activity-based items.
2. You manually entered a grade into an activity-based item (forum, quiz, assignment, etc.) via the grader report, not the activity.
It is important to note that you should never have overridden (yellow/tan shaded) grade items for any category or course totals. Overridden category or course totals are not displaying the correct average, and are skewing a student’s grade.
When a grade item is overridden, you are unable to make any further changes to the grade unless you undo the override. To undo the override, turn editing on from the grader report page.
Select the “edit settings” (gear-shaped) icon from the shaded grade entry box.
At the resulting edit grade page, deselect the overridden check box and save the changes.
The grade entry box is then emptied, allowing you to enter a new grade.
