Existing Setup

If you previously connected to the VTCStudents or VTCWireless networks and can no longer connect, you will first need to remove the existing network profile. If you are setting up the connection for the first time, please jump to the New Setup section.

  • Click the Start menu and type wifi in the search box
  • Select Change Wi-Fi settings

  • When the Settings app opens, select Manage known networks


  • Select the VTC network

  • Then click the Forget button

  • If you had additional VTC networks saved, choose to forget them as well.
  • Proceed to the New Setup instructions


New Setup

  • Right-click on the Wi-Fi icon on the task bar (lower-right corner near the clock) and choose Open Network and Sharing Center

  • In the window that appears, select Set up a new connection or network

  • In the next window, select Manually connect to a wireless network and click the Next button

  • Enter the network name
    • Students:  VTCStudents
    • Faculty/Staff:  VTCWireless
  • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Click the Next button

  • Select Change connection settings

  • In the new window, select the Security tab at the top
  • Click the Settings button

  • At the top, uncheck Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate
  • Then click the Configure… button below

  • In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, make sure Automatically use my Windows logon name and password is unchecked and click the OK button

  • Click the OK button to close out of the Protected EAP Properties window
  • Back on the window with the Security tab at the top, select the Advanced settings button at the bottom

  • In the new window, check the Specify authentication mode box
  • In the drop-down menu, select User authentication
  • Then click the Save credentials button

  • When prompted for credentials, enter your VTC username and password and click OK

  • Click the OK buttons to close out of the windows open and the wireless should connect
